Shopify Glossary

Shopify is an e-commerce platform from Canada, so there are many words that are unfamiliar to Japanese people. There are also other technical terms, so we will explain the terms that come up frequently.

Terms marked with ★ are particularly common words.

Merchant

This is a word that doesn't really ring a bell, but basically,
This refers to the store operator.

Even on Shopify's official website, store operators are often referred to as merchants, so store operators should remember that "merchant" means "themselves."

★Fulfillment

This is a word that is not familiar to Japanese people, but in short,
[Purchase confirmation].

In the case of Shopify, you press the fulfillment button when the product has been shipped.

★Theme

It is similar to what is commonly called a template.
However, since the template creates an expression that cannot be modified, strictly speaking it is slightly different.
This is because Shopify themes can be customized in a lot of ways, so when customizing them to create a website, you will only be using them as the original elements.

★Collection

This term is equivalent to "category" on other e-commerce platforms.

Shopify does not have a hierarchical structure, but a flat structure, so it uses the term collections, but as I have said many times, they actually mean "categories".

Global Commerce
Platform

It may be easier to understand if you translate it as "a global mail order platform."
We use it to mean a platform for creating e-commerce sites.

Check-out

It's a series of pages that allow you to make a purchase.
This is the page where you press a button such as "Purchase" on the shopping cart page, and then go to "Address", "Delivery method selection", and "Payment"!
One thing that can be a bit annoying is that the previous "cart screen" is not the checkout screen.

Storefront

The word "front" is frequently used in the web industry, and it may be easier to understand if you say "surface."
That means the part that is visible to the customer .
The opposite is "back office."

Back Office

This is the literal translation.
This is the opposite of the storefront, which refers to the front of a store, and refers to all back-of-the-store operations.

Subscription

When most Japanese people hear the word "subscription," they think of "regular You may imagine "purchase".
" Subscription "
Also included.

Therefore, since signing up for an email newsletter is a recurring subscription, it is called a "subscription."

Location

I understand that it generally means location, but more specifically, I think it would be better to think of it as the location of the sender.

If your company and warehouse are separate, you can set the location and the warehouse will become the shipping origin.

The number of locations can be up to 1000.

Custom Audiences

The word "audience" is used to mean "recipient," so it may be easier to think of it as "customer data" that you customize and set when thinking about marketing.

In fact, Shopify allows you to extract customers based on various customer data, and has a variety of tools that make it easy to implement pinpoint-based measures.

Shopify Flow

Shopify Flow is a free app that can be used with the Standard plan or above, and it allows you to set up flows to automate various things. With just this one app, you can automate a lot of things!

Shopify POS

As the name suggests, it is a Shopify POS system. There is a POS app that can be installed on smartphones and iPads, and with this, you can easily share inventory between your store and your e-commerce site!
It also comes with a function that allows you to centrally manage customer data across your EC site and in-store, and the usage fee is free.

If you want to divide the number of users by authority, there is a paid version called "PRO", but it is still not that expensive. (Per store: $89/month)

Shop Pay

This is Shopify's original payment method.
"Apple Pay is an Apple company."
"Google Pay is a Google company."
It is the same as what Shopify does, and is a payment service run by Shopify.
Once you have used Shopify once, you can use it at other Shopify stores, which is a convenient feature as it saves you the trouble of having to enter an address.
