[Shopify Flow] A fascinating new feature

When creating an EC site with Shopify, the app "Shopify Flow" is incredibly "awesome" ! The app itself is free to use, so it's an app you should use as much as you can.

Anyways!! The first thing I want to tell you is that this app is usable!!!

It's now ridiculous to create an e-commerce site using anything other than Shopify.

It's safe to say it's a super app!!

To be honest, in the early stages of launching your EC site, you may not know how to use it or what it's good for. However, once you understand how convenient it is, you'll be glad you chose Shopify!

It's that amazing! So let me give you a brief overview!

So, what does the app do?

It's amazing! But what exactly does this app do?

At the top of the app installation page it says:

"Automate everything and get back to business"

It says, "In a word,

An app that creates flow

It's something like this. Flow... that is, the flow. They are not the trio of men and women who were popular in the early 2000s.

It may be difficult to imagine what it means to "create a flow," so let me give you an example.

  • Tagging customer information of customers who purchased a specific product
  • Automatically send alerts when inventory drops below a certain level
  • Automatically send coupons for repeat purchase marketing based on purchase frequency
  • When an order is settled, it is automatically exported to a spreadsheet.

I've written four so far, but in reality there are countless options and the possibilities are endless, so I feel I have no choice but to leave some out.

Do you understand it somehow?

When a specific action occurs, some process runs automatically.

Is this easy to understand? Something is triggered (called a trigger) to do something (an action). This is what can be automated.

In other words, tasks that previously required manual effort, such as sending coupons, checking inventory, and tagging customers, can now be automated.

As the opening sentence says, "Automate everything and get back your work time!", you can do things without using your own time, and you can run a business using your own time! (In other words, create more time to increase sales.)

To be honest, I don't think it's easy to explain to the general public, but it's so highly functional that it has sent shock waves through the EC industry!! That's because, up until now, people have had to create their own software for that task, or pay a monthly fee to use an app within Shopify, but now this single app can improve many things.

Tagging customer information is a prime example of this.

There have been apps like that up until now, but they charged a monthly fee. But now there is no monthly fee.

Amazing app integration

What's even more amazing is the wide range of options for "triggers" and possible "actions"!

Shopify's built-in triggers are really huge.

  • 1. When a customer buys an item with "Tops" in the title
  • ② When a customer buys something from the Tops Collection
  • 3. When you register a product with the name "Tops" in the product name

There are many other elements available in the first and second stages. The possibilities are almost endless, but if you add Flow-compatible apps, you can do a lot more.

For example, if you link a common app with an app that is "registered as a favorite"

  • ① [After adding to favorites] → [If the product is ●●] → [Send coupon]
  • ② [After deleting a favorite] → [If the product is not ●●] → [Send a recommendation for ●●]

You can also combine actions and triggers between apps, so if you combine a trigger from your favorite app with an action from a LINE-linked app,

  • ① [After adding to favorites] → [If the product is ●●] → [Send coupon via LINE]
  • ② [After deleting your favorites] → [If the product is not ●●] → [Send a recommendation for ●● via LINE]

You can do things like this! Here's what the settings screen looks like.

Add to favorites → If there are 5 or less items in stock → Send a message via LINE

The range of apps that can be linked is increasing every day, and it is evolving so quickly that even experts like us can't keep up!

Settings range from easy to difficult!

The settings for this app are a bit quirky.

Once the flow is complete, you'll see the screen above! You can see that while setting several conditions, there are conditional branches, like "Do this when this happens!" and "Do this in this case!", right?

It's okay if you don't understand the details! It's OK if you can understand that it's possible.

In order to set this up to this extent, you must first understand the object structure of Shopify's API, which is the trigger element; otherwise, you will have to choose from basic English with very little content, which is extremely difficult.

This isn't the case with the Japanese app, but as you can see from the image above, the element in between is Shopify, so you will definitely need to understand English and how Shopify works as a whole.

To some extent, you can guess that "customer" is a customer and "product" is a product!

In addition, Liquid, a language exclusive to Shopify, may come into play here. To be honest, is it an easy app that customers can do anything on their own? No, it's not.

Also, I think that builders who don't understand liquid will have a hard time. Even experts can't use it perfectly, so you'll have to try it out all the time.

For those of us who regularly use Liquid to create Shopify stores, writing code to do so will naturally give us a direction for infinitely expanding the flow, but if you don't know how, you're groping around in the dark. It's a difficult task.

It changed everything!

However, even with that, there is still a lot of potential... if all of this automation were to be done by ordering software for business use or by relying on human labor, it would end up costing an enormous amount of money.

With Flow, most production can be done by one person, and even extremely complex projects can be completed with just a few people at most.

In other words, the work that would previously have cost hundreds of thousands of yen to outsource and customize can now be done for just a few hundred thousand yen. If all goes well, it can even cost a single digit thousand yen.

Honestly, is there really no need for other platforms?

This is the kind of super app that everyone involved with Shopify thought. It is no exaggeration to say that this app has super features that will revolutionize the EC industry .

That's Shopify Flow !!
